About
Innovative Sustainable Architecture & Interiors
Fiona Winzar Architects is a Melbourne/Naarm-based practice specialising in residential architecture and interior design. The multi-award-winning studio works across new homes, heritage homes, renovations and workplaces, creating design that responds carefully to the way people live and work, the landscape and climate.
Mid-century Australian architecture informs the work's expression and generosity, particularly its connection to landscape, light, and materiality. These principles are carried forward to create contemporary homes and workplaces that feel grounded in their place and result in warm, inviting and socially engaging environments.
The practice works across Melbourne and regional Victoria, including the Mornington Peninsula and the Dandenong Ranges. Sustainability underpins each project through careful planning, energy efficiency and the use of durable, enduring materials.

Consultation
Holistic Design Approach
Initial consultations provide an opportunity to discuss your ideas, the site and the potential of the project. The process focuses on understanding your priorities and maximising opportunities by exploring design possibilities. This ensures a clear direction for the architecture and interiors from the earliest stages.
Sustainability and
Energy Efficiency
Climate Change and The Cost of Living
Fiona Winzar Architects is committed to sustainable design — for the planet, and for your hip pocket. The single most impactful change any home can make is to go all-electric: as energy researcher Saul Griffith argues, it's the one best thing you can do. From there, the next most affordable improvements are addressing air leakage and draughts, and upgrading insulation — changes that make an immediate difference to comfort and running costs.
With more investment, double glazing, solar panels and battery storage significantly reduce energy dependence. The gold standard — where budget allows — is Passive House certification paired with heat recovery ventilation for exceptional year-round comfort. Rainwater storage and rain gardens round out a whole-of-site approach to sustainability.
We bring this thinking to every project, whether a new home or the sensitive transformation of an existing or heritage building.
